遂に最終回になってしまいました。普通に最終回なら名残惜しいだけだけど、まだ続きがあるのに４月の番組改編期だからって事で、バッサリ切られてしまうのは納得行きませんね。蟲師を途中で切って、一体どんな番組を始めようってんだ？。２６話までやると４月を過ぎる事なんて最初から分かってたでしょ！？。フジテレビには、番組を見ている人を大切にしようって気持ちがないみたい。そんなことより編成の方が大事なんだろうな。
テレビ局の態度とは裏腹に、番組のクオリティは最後まで驚異的なハイレベルを保ってます。地上波最後のお話は、ギンコが蟲に関わった人を何とかするっていういつもの話とはちょっと違ってました。
「蟲に身体を侵食されながら、蟲を愛でつつ、蟲を封じる。そういう娘がひとりいる」。
ギンコがやってきた荒れ地の中の一軒家。何となく家の作りが中国風ですね。こんな殺風景な荒れ地も珍しいし。小さな木枠の窓が開いて仏頂面の老婆が顔を出します。なんか、気難しそう・・・。こんな婆さんに睨まれたら一秒でも早くここを立ち去りたくなってくるけど、ギンコは飄々としてますね。それにはちゃんと理由が。
この家の地下には、蟲に関する大量の資料が納めてあります。その資料を見せてもらうこともあるんだけど、本当の理由はここの娘、大量の資料を編纂している狩房淡幽ちゃんに会うことです。スミにおけんね、ギンコも。
この淡幽ちゃん。ただ蟲に関する事柄を編纂しているだけではなく、なにやら運命的に重たいものを背負っているようです。
「その昔の大天災の折、動植物も蟲も衰え行く中、異質な蟲が現れ他の全ての生命を消さんとしたのです」
すべての生命を消そうとした蟲ってどんな蟲だったんでしょうね。それである一人の蟲師が自分の身体で蟲を封じ、その代償に全身墨色になった。封じられた蟲は蟲師の体内で生き続け、その蟲師は子供を産んだ後亡くなったそうです。それ以後、狩房家には何代かに一度墨色の痣を持つ子が生まれるようになり、体の中に宿った蟲を封じるために、いろんな蟲師が蟲を封じた話を書き留める事になったそうです。
なんだかナウシカみたいな英雄が、でっかい異形の蟲に立ち向かって壮絶な戦いの末、自分の体の中に蟲を封じ込めたって話なんだけど、それだけで一つの物語になりそうな壮大な話ですね。
淡幽は黒い痣を持って生まれた四代目の筆記者で、最初は全身真っ黒だったのが、何代にも渡って蟲を封じる書物を書き記したおかげで、淡幽の痣は右足だけになっています。
淡幽は最初身の回りの世話をしてくれる婆さん、薬袋たまが昔蟲師として活躍していた頃の話を聞いて書き写していたものの、たまの話が尽きると、方々から蟲師を招いて蟲を殺した話を聞いて書き写さなくてはならなくなります。
ギンコ以外の蟲師をあまり見ないので、蟲師ってみんなギンコみたいに飄々としているのかと思ったら、そんなことはないんですね。蟲を悪者にして、正義の戦いをしているように威張っている人なんてのがいるんだね。いかにも力業って感じ。
蟲を殺す話ばかりで気が滅入っている淡幽に、ギンコは「じゃあ、殺さねえ話な。まずはホクロを喰う蟲の話を・・・」と半ば強引に役にも立たない話を聞かせてくれます。
教訓！。「女性に対して自慢話をするな。ホッとする話で気を紛らわそう」。
ギンコが地下の資料室で書物を見ていると、紙の上のシミが動き出し、封じられた蟲が出てきます。「文字列が崩れ始めている！」。慌ててたまを呼ぶギンコ。紙の上でウニョ〜ンと文字が歪んでいったかと思うと、そこら中から墨で書かれた文字が蛇のように溢れてきましたよ。
うわぁ、こんなに文字が出てきて大丈夫なのか！？。地下の書庫からはい出した文字達は淡幽の部屋の壁一面に張り付いてうごめいています。慌てるギンコに比べて淡幽は平気な顔。
「なに、この部屋からは出られん。私にだって、できる蟲封じはあるのだぞ」
淡幽はそう言うと、長い箸で文字列をつまむと、各章の名前を唱えながら紙に写していきます。今まで編纂した書の内容はすべて憶えているってところがすごいじゃないですか。はっし、はっしと文字を捕まえては書に貼り付けていく淡幽。どうやら紙はいつかすり減っていくものなので、いつか移し替える作業が必要と分かってやってる事みたい。それに書の中で動いているシミは、淡幽がかわいがってわざと残している蟲らしいです。長いこと書を編纂し続けていると退屈になってくるのかも。それで退屈しのぎにシミを飼っているのか？。「またそれは危険な遊びを・・・」。いやまったくです。
書を書いて蟲を封じているところもすごかったです。筆で書くのかと思ったら、全身に文字が浮かび上がってきて、それを指で書に写していくって感じ。さながら耳なし芳一の如し。
書に蟲を封じるときは、ものすごく痣が痛むようで、ギンコは疲れ切った淡幽をおぶって荒れ野に出かけます。この時のギンコと淡幽の会話が良かったですね。淡幽はいつ終わるとも知れない蟲封じを続け、自分が死ぬまでに右足の痣が消えなければ、その作業は子孫に引き継がれることになる。先が見えない作業のなかで、あてのない希望を口にしてみる淡幽です。
「オマエと、旅に出たいな。話に聞いた蟲を見たい、なんてな。よくてもその頃、私は老婆だがな」。
「うーん」。
「冗談だよ」。
「いいぜ。それまで無事、オレが生き延びられてたらだがな」。
「生きてるんだよ」。
「いや、明日にでも蟲に喰われてっかもしんねえし」。
「それでも生きてるんだよ」。
「ムチャ言ってんな」。
「何とかなるさ」。
ちゃんと受け止めてくれてるギンコ。いいですね〜、この二人の会話。しっかり約束するでもなし、なにかを確かめるわけでもないのだけれど、二人の間にはお互いに対する思いやりに溢れてます。こんな風にさりげなくお互いを大切にするような関係になれたらステキですね。
優しい余韻を残して終了した蟲師。いつか残りの分も地上波で放送してほしいです。
