テレビや映画のサウンドトラック、自身のジャズトリオを率いての演奏録音など、幅広く活躍している大野雄二ですが、その名前を一躍有名にしたのは、なんと言ってもルパン三世の音楽でしょう。
大野雄二が担当したのは、１９７７年に放送が始まったルパン３世パート�兇�らで、以後、劇場用映画、テレビスペシャルと、絶えることなく新作が作成し続けられ、そこには必ず、大野雄二の音楽が寄り添っています。
テレビシリーズ・パート�兇離董璽涓山擇蓮�知らぬ者のいない大ヒットとなり、ルパン三世と言えば、誰でもこのテーマを思い浮かべます。そのテーマも、ヴォーカル入り、サックス、エレキギター、ヴィヴラフォンなど、新しいヴァージョンが作られるたびに、いろんな楽器で奏でられ、それぞれ印象の違う曲に仕上がっています。
大野雄二の音楽の特徴は、一言で言って、リッチでゴージャス。一度聴いたら忘れられないメロディを、とても巧みなアレンジで、いきいきと聴かせてくれます。楽器の組み合わせがとても上手くて、もうほれぼれしてしまいます。まさにツボを押さえたアレンジ。ストリングスの上にフルートを重ねるパターンが、よく使われていますが、下手なフルートを吹く私としては、そこも気に入っています。
ルパン三世関係のＣＤは、非常にたくさん作られていて、いったいどれを買ったらいいのか、迷ってしまうほどです。それなの中には、大きく分けて、いくつかのパターンがあります。
１，オリジナル・アルバム
２，サウンド・トラック
３，ベスト盤
テレビスペシャルが作られるたびに、オリジナル・サウンド・トラックＣＤが作られるので、どんどんＣＤが増えていきます。私もサウンドトラックを数枚持っていますが、ヴォーカル入りのテーマなどはいいのですが、雰囲気を盛り上げるためだけに作られた短い曲などは、楽曲として聴くにはどうかなと思います。車の中で聴いていても、すぐに終わってしまうので、あまり印象に残りません。
そういう意味では、オリジナル・アルバムのほうが、聴きごたえがあります。

テレビシリーズパート２のオリジナルアルバムとして作成されました。随所にルパン、次元、五右衛門、不二子、銭形セリフや銃声が入っています。それを面白いと取るか、煩わしいと取るかは、人それぞれです。私は、最初は面白かったですが、何度も聞いていると、ちょっと余計かなという気がしてきました。放送当時のルパンと不二子の関係が伺えるのが興味深いところです。
