蟲師「虚繭取り」 [ 蟲師 ]

いつも奇妙な蟲達が登場する「蟲師」だけど、今回はいつもにまして奇妙でした。普通は人間の生活に、人知では考えられないような作用を及ぼしている蟲を、今回は人間が利用して便利なものとして扱っています。そのあたりがいつもと少し趣が違う所以かも。
「ウロさん」と呼ばれる蟲がいます。このウロさんの性質を利用して、メールのような機能を持たせています。離れたところにいる蟲師に文のやり取りをする便利な蟲。
「普通、繭は１本の糸でできているが、玉繭は２匹で作るから２本の糸でできている。そいつをバラしてふたつの繭に作り直すが、部屋全体が薄くなるんでウロさんが混乱して出てくる。ウロさんは当分このふたつの巣の間しか行き来できなくなる」
その繭を両者で一つずつ持っていて、片方の繭に文を入れれば、ウロさんがもう片方の繭に文を届けてくれるというわけです。なんて便利！。得体の知れない蟲なんて気味悪がって敬遠するところなのに、その蟲さえも便利さを求めて利用するなんて。人間のたくましさは蟲をも凌ぐって所でしょうか。
綺と緒の双子の姉妹は、代々続くウロ守の一族に生まれます。長年ウロさんを見る能力を持った子が生まれなかったところに、綺と緒は久々に生まれた能力者でした。本家の爺さんは、どちらかを跡継ぎにするため、１０歳になった時、どちらかを連れに来たのですが、仲の良い二人を別々にするより二人一緒がよかろうと、二人を爺さんの家に連れていき、ウロ守としての修行をすることになりました。
「ウロさんってのは、現世に風穴を開けてまわる恐ろしい蟲なんだ。この辺りはウロさんの湧きやすい土地でな。密室を見つけては湧いて出る。だから部屋の戸は閉じちゃならん。誤って戸を閉めちまったら開けてはならん。開けてもしウロさんが中にいたら、逃げ出すウロさんと共に、ウロ穴に取り込まれちまう。ウロさんは密室の外に長くいられんものだからな」
なんだか恐ろしいですね。部屋の中の戸をすべて少し開けておいて、閉めちゃダメなんて、とても守れそうにないですよ。でもこの爺さん、「ワシもこの年までやってこれたから大丈夫」なんて言ってます。
爺さんの言葉にもかかわらず悲劇は起きました。緒が縁側でうたた寝をしてしまったとき、洗濯物の布がはずれて緒に被さってしまいます。そこは密室となり、ウロさんが。緒を捜していた綺が布をめくると、ウロさんと一緒に緒も消えてなくなりました。
跡形もなく消えてしまった緒を見て、綺はショックだったでしょうね。自分のせいでいつも一緒に生きてきた緒がいなくなってしまったなんて、考えただけでも胸が潰れます。
「おまえのせいじゃない」と言う爺さんですが、「助ける術はないんじゃ」と頭を抱えます。孫が消えてしまった爺さんの心もまた悲痛です。
綺は一人でウロ守になり、この時からずっと緒宛の文を出して緒を捜し続けています。その様子を見たギンコは「あれから５年になる。もう諦めろ」と綺を諭します。ずっと自分のせいで緒がいなくなったと、自分を責め続けている綺のことを心配している様子。「蟲師」には、よくこうした過去に囚われて前に進めない人が出てきますね。その人達にギンコが言うのは、大抵「もう○年になるんだろ。そろそろ自分のことを考えてもいいんじゃないか」っていう言葉です。
ギンコは綺に現実を見せるためか、ウロ穴の中がどうなっているか見せることにします。大木の幹にでっかい触手が集まったような所があり、そこがウロ穴だとか。触手をかき分け、この中に入っていくなんて、うえええ、気持ち悪い。できたら入りたくないな。ウロ穴と外の世界をつなぐのは１本の鎖だけ。最初この鎖はギンコが用意しいた物かと思っていたら、昔の蟲師が作った物らしいです。すごいぞ昔の蟲師！。抜け穴にするためにウロ穴に鎖を付けるなんて、人間の好奇心は留まるところを知りません。
あっちこっちに暗い穴が無数に通じていて、どこに通じているか分からない。とても緒を捜すどころではない、自分の無力さを痛感させられる光景です。
「おまえの中のでっかいウロの口は塞げ。戻ってこれなくなる前に」
どうしようもない現実を突きつけられて、涙を流す綺。緒のことを忘れることはできなくても、緒を助け出すことだけを考えて、それだけに縛られて生きることは綺のためにならない。綺は綺で自分の幸せを考えて生きてほしいというのがギンコの願いでしょう。
この話には後日談があって、数年後、老婆が繭の糸を紡いでいたところ、繭から緒が出てきたのでした。小さな白い繭から指が出てきて、文を持った娘が現れたのは驚きですね。ひっくり返って腰を抜かした婆さん、さぞかしビックリしただろうな〜。
「人の子、繭より出り。齢十ほどにて言葉を得ず。後、懐の文をたよりに故郷へ戻りし」
緒はいなくなった子供の時のままの年で、言葉が話せなくなっていたようです。綺は二十歳前になっていただろうから、年の離れた姉妹になってしまったけど、再会できただけでもよかったんじゃないでしょうか。
二人の姉妹がかわいかったですね。しゃべり方がまたかわいいんだなあ！。大きくなった綺もボーイッシュでいいです。最初は男か女か分かんなかったけど。ゴメン、綺。

NAION also happens in patients who do not take this medicine. People who have a higher chance for NAION include those who: ｷ have heart disease; ｷ are over 50 years old; ｷ have diabetes; ｷ have high blood pressure; ｷ have high cholesterol; ｷ smoke; or ｷ have certain eye problems. Stop using Viagra if you have any loss in your eyesight and seek medical help right away. Do not take Viagra if you are using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. Nitrates include nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro, others), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket). Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers").
