はぁ〜、やっぱりやす菜エンドでしたか。前回とまりが「はずむを一番必要としてるのはやす菜だ」って言ってたから、おおよそ予想はついていたけど、こうハッキリ言われるとショックだなあ。
「とまりちゃん。いつも側にいてくれた。小さい頃からずっと。僕のことを一番分かってくれる女の子。とまりちゃん、大好きだよ」
「やす菜ちゃん。寂しげな、けれで生きる力を与えてくれるような素敵なフルートを吹く女の子。初恋の人。やす菜ちゃん、大好きだよ」
「ボクは、心の中で女の子同士だからって甘く考えてたのかも」
そうですか、女の子同士だから甘く考えていたのか。でも、世間もそう思ってたもんな〜。女の子同士だから３人仲良くやれば？って。それって常識的に許されるのか、許されないのか？。突然男の子が女の子になってしまうなんてことは、普通起こらないから分かんないよ。まあ、当人同士がよければいいんだけど、当人はそれじゃ満足しなかったわけです。
はずむが鹿縞山に登ったのは何しに行ったのかと思ったら、何か重大なことを決意するために登っただけなんですね。重大な事ってのは、当然告白。
とまりもはずむに話があって、学校の屋上で待ってました。
「あれからずっと考えてたんだ。ボクはどうしたらいいのか、どうしたいのか。自分で決めなきゃって、毎日ずっと。それで決めたんだ。・・・ボク、やす菜ちゃんのそばにいる」。
「そうか・・・」
ガーン！。やっぱりそうか。分かっていても、試験の不合格発表みたいで嫌な気分だな。「あなたは不合格です」って言われてるみたい。
どうしていいのか分からなかったからか、気まずかったからか、持ってたホースで水の掛け合い。そしてとまりの話ってのは、
「最後に1日遊んでくれ。それでオマエのこと諦めるからって。先に言われちまったけどな」
やっぱり最初から諦めるつもりだったのか、とまり。
そして最後の一日、二人は思いっきり遊びます。あっちこっちで遊び回って、日も暮れる頃思い出の河原で自転車二人乗り。
「とまりちゃん、いつもこうやっていろんな所に連れてってくれた」
「オマエがいつまでたっても自転車に乗れなかったからだろ」
「スピードアップ！」
「こういうのは普通男がこぐんだぞ」
「だってボク女の子だもーん！」
「このまま海まで行くか！？」
「うん、本当に行けたらいいね」
「遠すぎるよな・・・」
一見楽しそうだけど、やっぱり辛いよね。とまりの目には涙。はずむも後ろで泣き出してしまい、ひっくり返ってしまいました。
「はずむはいるから。いつも、私の中に。川、渡ってくれただろ。私のお婿さんになるってさ。あのときのはずむは、私だけのものなんだ。誰にも渡さない。誰にも奪うことのできない。私だけのものなんだ。すごいだろ？、そんなもの持ってんだぞ、私は。はずむが結婚して歳とっても、ずっと自慢してやる。プロポーズしてくれたはずむを。私を好きだって言ってくれたはずむを。ヨボヨボになって死んじゃうまで、はずむの子供に、はずむの孫に自慢してやる。オマエの親は、オマエの婆ちゃんは、私のために川を渡ってくれたんだぞ。あたしをお嫁さんにするために、世界で一番すごいことしてくれたんだぞって。・・・・・・・・だから行ってよ。私は大丈夫だから。平気だから行けよ、行け！男だろ！！」。
あ〜〜〜〜〜、つらい。切ないな〜。ほとんどやせ我慢のとまり。振られるとかえって気丈に振る舞っちゃうって、損な性格だなあ。
神社で何をお祈りしたの？って聞かれて、とまりは「オマエと同じだよ」って答えたけど、本当は今日が、はずむと一緒にいられる最後の日が、永遠に終わらないようにって願ったような気がするよ。
とまりに背中を押されるように立ち去ろうとするはずむ。その背中に向かって
「はずむーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー！、行っちゃやだ！！」
ここまでするかってくらい、締め付けてくれますね。思わず抱き合ってしまうとまりとはずむ。ああ、本心っていうのは、いくら頑張って気丈に振る舞っていても、格好つけて、理屈をつけていても、最後には心の壁を破って吹き出してしまう物なんですね。好きで好きでどうしようもないものは、どうしようもないんだなあ。
このまま二人は押し流されてしまうのかと思ったけど、そうはなりませんでした。川を渡っていくとまりを、もうはずむは追いかけない。追いかけてきてくれるかと淡い期待を持っていたとまりも、自分の影にはずむの影が重ならないことを悟り、改めて振り向いてみてもはずむの姿はありませんでした。
やす菜は荷物をまとめてお婆ちゃんの家に向かいます。なぜお婆ちゃんの家に行くのか、行ってどうするのかがよく分かりませんでした。転地療法？。交差点ではずむがやす菜を見つけて告白します。
「ボクのそばにいてほしい」
「嘘・・・」
「嘘じゃない。決めたんだ。やす菜ちゃんのそばにいるって。だから」
「信じていいの？」
信じていいの？なんていわれると、今まで散々騙してきたみたいに聞こえるなあ。告白を聞いたやす菜はみるみる世界が開けていきます。
「世界が見える、見えるの！」
はずむの告白で、すべて解決。病気まで治ってハッピーエンドってわけですか。この辺りの描写は時間がなかったからか、ちょっとお手軽でしたね。一応はずむはやす菜を選んだんだし、もうちょっと時間をかけてもよかったのではと思いました。
最終回にふさわしく、それなりにキレイな終わり方だったけど、最後の最後にワケの分からんものが入ってましたね。
服が冬服になっていたような。やす菜が「はずむ君、あのね・・・」。河原の石を渡ったはずむが、「とまりちゃん、あのね・・・」。何なんだ、この思わせぶりなセリフは！？。巷ではＤＶＤ販売促進用だとか、第２期作成の布石だとか言われてるけど、どうなんですかね。どっちにしたって、不必要なカットのような気がします。そりゃもちろん第２期作成してほしいけど・・・。

やす菜「はずむ君、あのね・・・、私も宇宙船にぶっつかって男の子になっちゃったみたい。股間に見慣れない物がついてるの」
はずむ「とまりちゃん、あのね・・・、朝起きたら男の子に戻っちゃったみたい。みんなで男の子になろうよ」
・・・・くだらん。
とにもかくにも、はずむはやす菜を選んで終わり。まあ、この結果は最初から分かっていたような気がします。なんったってはずむは最初にやす菜に告白したんだし、とまりはそれをけしかけてたんだから。
とまりが自分の気持ちに気づき、はずむは誰かを選べば誰かを失うことに気づいて、その葛藤に悩むところがこのアニメの主題になっていたようでした。すべての恋愛物語がそうであるように、自分の感情と、友達や周囲の事情といったものの軋轢に悩むところに解決できない永遠の悩みがあるのです。
そう考えると、はずむが女の子になったという設定は大して意味がなかったのでは？。とまりもやす菜もはずむを男として恋愛の対象にしていたし、はずむも女の子になったから男の子が好きになったというわけでもないし。普通の男女の恋愛物語でも十分通用したような気がします。
最終回の扱い方からしても、このお話の主人公はとまりでした。幼なじみが突然女になってしまい、戸惑いながらも自分の本当の気持ちに気づいていく。そしてやす菜への友達としての思いやりや、自分の感情との葛藤に悩みながらも、はずむが出した決断を受け入れざるを得ない。そんなとまりの心の動きに見ている人達は共感し、一緒に苦しみ、一緒に涙したのです。
勝ち気でぶっきらぼうに見えるけれど、実は細やかで女らしく、秘めた感情をなかなか表に出せない不器用さを持ち合わせています。そんなとまりの魅力がこのアニメを支えていたのではないでしょうか！。
最後にエンディング・テーマ「みちしるべ」はよかったです。私としては弾き語りバージョンの歌い方のほうがよりベター。優しく語りかけるような歌い方が、曲の良さを引き立てていると思います。
ああ、もう終わりか。でもよかった。こんなにドキドキしてみたアニメは久しぶりでした。
