主題歌なしで自衛隊員の葬式シーン。出棺の時流れるのは、故人が生前葬儀の時に流してほしいと言ってた曲、「ひょっこりひょうたん島」！。ああ、懐かしい。
懐かしいのと同時に、やはり葬式にひょっこりひょうたん島は似合わないな〜。まさか自分の葬式をどう行うか、真面目に考えた発言じゃないと思うけど、自衛隊の戦闘機乗りが言った言葉だから重みがあるよね。残された人達は、せめても個人の望みを叶えてやろうと、曲をかけたんだろうけど、あまりに場違いな気がしました。
教訓。気軽に「葬式はしないでくれ」とか、「遺灰は海にまいてくれ」とか言わないようにしよう。
今開かされる本郷の過去。本郷は戦闘機乗りだった。そしてＦ転。事故で同僚を失い、それが原因で救難隊に回されたのでした。事故から１２年たった今でも、死んだ同僚の仏壇に手を合わせてます。
内田と同じだったんですね。戦闘機乗りから救難隊に回されたって事が。自分の経験から、人事異動だからと簡単に割り切れるはずがないって事が分かってたんでしょう。それで内田をあんなに怒鳴りつけたんだ。
お盆で帰省している内田は、「親父、事故で歩けんようになった時、わしが店を継ぐの期待しとったんじゃないんか？。今からでも自衛隊辞めて店手伝うたろうか？」などと、あからさまに逃げ道を捜してます。
何事か悟った父は、「お前みたいな気のきかんやつは、こっちから願い下げだ」と逃げ道を塞いでやります。ここで「そうか！、わしもそうしてくれたら嬉しいよ！」と言ってしまうと、冗談で言った内田の気持ちが、現実的な形を伴ってしまうからね。冗談を冗談で終わらせるためには、しっかり断ってやらないと、変な期待を持ち始めて、苦しくなったとき「どうせ自衛隊なんか辞めて実家を継げばいいや」という考えが頭をもたげてくるのです。
この話を聞いたお母さん。驚いて息子の彼女にまで電話してます。ビックリしたよな〜めぐみ。思わず居住まいを正して聞いてしまいましたよ。なにも知らないめぐみは、この電話で内田がまだ迷ってることを知り、「腰の座らんやっちゃな〜」。いや、まったく。
めぐみの妹がＧｏｏｄ！。なかなかいいじゃないですか。こんな妹がいたなんて、高校生ですか。セーラー服が眩しいぜ！。ショートカットが嬉しいぜ！。１日デートだっためぐみに、
「ラブホ、行ったん？。黙っとるとこ見ると、行ったんじゃ」
「行っとらん！」
「ならどこいったん？」
中略
「お姉ちゃんが不純異性交遊しよる〜！」
そうかそうか、不純異性交遊か。そんな言葉があったな〜。で、めぐみ、ラブホ行ったのか？。そこんとこをハッキリしてほしい。
内田と同期の戦闘機乗りから、本郷がＦ転だった事を聞いたすぐ後、その同期のＦ１５がレーダーロストしたとの報告が入ります。救難隊にもエマージェンシーが。
「落ち着け内田。訓練と同じと思え。できなかったら深呼吸だ」
次から次へとヘビーな出動が続きますね。
勝手に宴会の出欠を記入してしまう本郷。普通の会社でこんな事したら、一番に嫌われちゃうな。本郷なりの優しさのような気もするけど、この人も不器用そうに見えます。
気になるのは、本郷の妻が時折見せる暗い顔。なんか不満でもあるんすか？。
